Ene's Swatch

Hello,everybody! i am a japanese knitter, named 3369.
i am glad to join this group. Thanks Annabel!

i can't alomost understand (write) French,so i am writting in English.
But i remenber 10-20 French tricot words,for exsample,dim. augm. encol. monter ensemble,when i translated phildar patterns into Japanese.

i love Ene's Scarf.
But i can't get the same gauge yarn,so i am using Japanese yarn,different rows.
i am worry about whether it becomes triangule shape,so i knitted big swatch before real size ene's.

it becomes triangule. But is it long in length?

Yes, i worried about the shawl's shape.
My swatch is wide shorter and length longer than orijinal pattern.


But i will not worry so nervous.

What a lovely swatch! You are clearly a very good knitter!
(I'm working on a small swatch right now, half a triangle, and you can really tell this is my first venture into lace knitting!)

I understand that you are a bit worried about the proportions (length versus width), am I right?

It looks quite alright to me, but it's difficult to tell, since the eye is "fooled" by the bottom border.

If it's a concern for you, maybe you can calculate the ratio of the measurements in the book and compare to the same ratio of your swatch?

Your swatch is so lovely !

You know what, personally, I don't really think the gauge is that important for a shawl.
As long as it’s not the size of a dishcloth or a big blanket…it’s OK for me ;o)

Do you really want the same as the book (matter of size I mean) ?


Your swatch’s yarn is nice, even if I’m not sure of its colour (grey, beige ?)- Are you going to use the same yarn for your big shawl ?
